Linda Canning B.Ost.

Linda Canning B.Ost. - Linda treats all the muscles and joints of the body, not just the lower back.

Linda qualified from the British School of Osteopathy, London in 2007 and has been working in the Glasgow area ever since.

“I have always been fascinated by anatomy and physiology, especially the biomechanics of the body (the way the body moves), and its amazing ability to cope with the stresses and strains of daily life. The body however has only a finite reservoir of ability to cope with these stresses and sometimes compensatory adaptations break down and pain ensues. Everyone’s reserves are different, and unless there has been a recent injury or pathological change in the body that can account for pain, there needs to be some “Sherlock” style investigation to figure out why one gets pain where they do. The reasons for this can be anything from postural habits, alignment issues or an old injury e.g. an ankle sprain that hasn’t had the attention it needs to support the leg/pelvis/lower back that sits on top of it! My job is to figure out why the pain is there, reduce the pain and prevent the pain from returning.”

Linda uses an array of techniques to help support your body’s ability to heal and speed up recovery. Massage, mobilisations and manipulations help to restore function and movement, reducing tension, aiding lymphatic drainage, reducing inflammation and therefore pain. Sometimes the more subtle “cranial” techniques are more appropriate and so she will also use these; always tailoring the treatment to your needs. She is qualified in Medical Acupuncture, which can be very powerful in reducing pain, and she always gives advice on exercise to rehabilitate and improve performance.

Linda is also a qualified Body Control Pilates Teacher.

Registered Osteopaths study for four to five years for an undergraduate degree, similar to a medical degree, with more emphasis on anatomy and musculoskeletal medicine. General Osteopathic Council (GOsC)

By law, osteopaths must be registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) and must continue to update their knowledge base and skills with Continued Professional Development (CPD) every year.

Since qualifying Linda worked as an Associate Osteopath in clinics in Glasgow building her experience in treating a wide range of conditions in all ages – from tiny babies to the elderly. She is now pleased to be able to bring this experience to her own clinic in Bearsden.

Linda is also trained in Medical Acupuncture which can be used in parallel with osteopathic techniques for the reduction of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction.
